Application field of thyristor? What is the role of thyristor?

2023-08-09

Thyristor, short for thyristor rectifier element, is a high-power semiconductor device with a four-layer structure of three PN junctions, also known as thyristor. It has the characteristics of small size, relatively simple structure and strong function, and is one of the most commonly used semiconductor devices.

The device is widely used in various electronic equipment and electronic products, mostly used to do controlled rectification, inverter, frequency conversion, voltage regulation, contactless switch and so on. Thyristor devices are widely used in household appliances such as dimming lights, speed regulating fans, air conditioners, TV sets, refrigerators, washing machines, cameras, combined audio, acousto-optic circuits, timing controllers, toy devices, radio remote control, cameras and industrial controls. Li Yang Semiconductor and we explain in detail the role of thyristor and the common types of thyristor.

The role of thyristor

The most widely used in power electronic devices is the bidirectional thyristor rectifier, whose function is to realize the conversion function of alternating current into direct current. Thyristor has a wide range of applications, it can be used in small current control large capacity load automatic voltage regulator power supply or inverter power supply system; It can also be used for high-power rectifier and frequency conversion speed regulating device; It can also be used in pulse width modulation circuits of various frequencies and waveforms, as well as power components for other power electronic converters, etc. Several common types:

1, ordinary bipolar transistor: bipolar transistor two electrodes each have a channel and two bases to form a p channel structure and an n channel structure of bipolar transistor called ordinary bipolar transistor transistor referred to as ordinary bipolar transistor.

2, field effect tube: the inside of the field effect tube contains many space charge layers formed by the gate source and the drain source two electrodes composed of conductive materials, which constitute a device with amplification capability called field effect transistor, also known as the insulated gate bipolar transistor.

3, compound diode: Compound diode is made of two different semiconductor materials made of two different semiconductor materials contact with each other, a new type of diode called compound diode.

4, photoelectric coupler: photoelectric device is an electronic device that converts optical signals into electrical signals, also known as photoelectric converter or light-electrical conversion device

5, thyristor: thyristor is one of the most widely used automatic control components, its basic structure and characteristics are similar to the general transistor, but the working speed is much faster than the transistor and the volume is smaller, so it is widely used in a variety of control systems, especially industrial process automation instruments and various household appliances.
